From 1910 - 1915 James Hemenway, born and raised in Cottage Grove, farmed until 1960. Just prior to retiring from farming he and his wife Julia Hemenway founded Hemenway, REALTORS®. Jim was instrumental in forming the Cottage Grove Board of Realtors in 1963 and the Cottage Grove MLS a little later.

Grandpa William Hemenway came to Cottage Grove in 1887 on an immigrant train. He served in the Oregon State Legislature and became a real estate broker in 1910. Julia was a co-founder of Hemenway, REALTORS®, along with her husband, James Hemenway, in 1959. Shortly thereafter, Julia received her real estate license. For many years Julia was one of the top selling agents in the area, while managing the office, and is still active today at 81 years young.

Around 1968, daughter Ruth and son David joined the firm. Presently, David and Ruth own the company as brokers and co-owners and are supported by an excellent team.
